- The laboratory participates in the project “Sustainable Mindset and AI-Supported Digital Transformation in Higher Education”, in collaboration with:
The project addresses one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the need to adopt sustainable ways of living. Leveraging an innovative digital approach, it aims to transform the way students understand, value, and apply sustainability principles in their everyday lives. By integrating advanced digital tools and pedagogical strategies, the project empowers students to develop a sustainability-oriented mindset and prepares them to actively engage in addressing global societal and environmental challenges. A key anticipated impact of the project is a significant shift in the value system of both students and academic staff, fostering a culture of sustainability within higher education institutions and contributing to the long-term advancement of responsible and conscious citizenry.
- Participation in the project "Learn by Case Study using AI Chatbot in cybersecurity and data science (ChatToCaseStudy)", in collaboration with:
- This project aims to strengthen higher education institutions through the development of an Artificial Intelligence-based chatbot for innovative case-based learning in the fields of cybersecurity and data science. It will support students’ learning processes and enhance their problem-solving skills within the digital ecosystem. The project represents a comprehensive approach that will equip educators with the necessary skills and resources. It emphasises sustainability and continuous improvement of the AI chatbot, ensuring its long-term success and significant contribution to the digital transformation of education.(More...).
- Implementation of the project titled “Computer Vision and AI Algorithms Edge Computation on UAVs (ai4media.eu, one of the five research projects funded through the European network of excellence AI4Media – A European Excellence Center for Media, Society and Democracy (ai4media.eu). The project is carried out by members of the laboratory, under the scientific supervision of Professor Dr. Vasileios Chatzi, a member of the lab.(More...)
- Implementation of the project “An Innovative Modular Dual System Based on Business Processes Modeling and Simulation for Company-Oriented Vocational Education and Training”, in collaboration with F-BB (Germany) and AESD (Romania), within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme, with a total budget of €620,000. The project was implemented entirely by members of the laboratory under the scientific supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Kosmas Kosmidis.
The project aimed to modernize and enhance company-oriented Vocational Education and Training (VET) through the integration of Business Process Modeling (BPM) and simulation-based methodologies. By analyzing authentic business workflows and translating them into structured models, the project enabled the development of training modules that closely mirror real-world company operations. This approach strengthens the connection between theoretical instruction and practical understanding, allowing learners to engage with realistic decision-making environments and industry-relevant scenarios.
A major outcome of the project is the InnoVET Business Simulator, an innovative web-based application designed to support simulation-driven learning. The platform allows trainees to explore, manipulate, and optimize business processes through interactive tools that visualize workflows, performance indicators, and operational constraints. This digital environment enhances understanding of business complexity, promotes problem-solving skills, and offers educators a powerful resource for designing experiential learning pathways. The simulator is publicly accessible at https://innovet.teiemt.gr/bs/
Beyond the technological innovation, the project promoted cross-border collaboration, capacity-building, and exchange of best practices among the participating institutions. It contributes to European efforts to advance VET through digital transformation, adaptability, and the alignment of educational methodologies with real enterprise needs. The results include methodological guides, pedagogical frameworks, and a modular dual training system that can be adapted and expanded by educational institutions and industry stakeholders.
- The Laboratory is in continuous cooperation with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Kavala–Thasos for the three-dimensional documentation of archaeological sites. The archaeological site of Alyki on the island of Thasos has already been mapped in 3D, and an application has been submitted for authorization to document an additional area within the archaeological site of Philippi.

- Collaboration with "The Management Authority of the Nestos Delta – Vistonida – Ismarida for the submission of the proposal “Monitoring System for Wetland Forest Areas”, as part of the initiative “Integrated Plans for the Development of Coastal and Island Areas.” The project has been approved by the Regional Authority of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
- Collaboration with the University of Girona, the Kavala Nautical Club, and the Airotel hotel group enterprise for the submission of the proposal “Research and Development of Innovative Services in Sailing Sports Tourism,” within the framework of the initiative “Showcasing Academic Community Ideas to Strengthen the Extroversion of Higher Education Institutions”, under the Operational Programme “Education and Lifelong Learning.”
Alongside the implementation of research projects and collaborative initiatives, the laboratory is strongly committed to fostering a spirit of research among the Department’s students. This is achieved through the supervision of undergraduate theses, postgraduate dissertations, and the development of both theoretical and laboratory-based courses.
